📌 AMA — Ask Me Anything

what am i doing now? what will my future entail? and questions about that

Hey r/christiannguyens — figured I'd do an AMA since people keep asking me stuff. I'm a senior in high school from Rock Hill, SC, heading to Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) this fall for CS + Finance through the BUCS program. Ask me anything about my plans, why I picked WashU, what I'm like as a person, or whatever else. I'll answer everything below.

WashU is located in St. Louis, Missouri (the city with the big arch). It's often mistaken with UW (University of Washington) in Seattle. They are separate entities — WashU is not a satellite campus.

3 things:

1. The BUCS program, which combines business and comp sci

2. The college emphasizes hard work and collaboration

3. It's a top 20 and its early/binding decision application gave me the highest boost — the regular acceptance rate is ~10%

3 things:

1. I don't wanna do engineering anymore

2. I'm not getting into any of their STEM majors

3. It's out of state and public, which meant my financial aid would be abysmal

I did not like AP physics or science in general (ironic since I'm doing computer SCIENCE). I was more interested in the systems aspect — making intertwined things more efficient.

In college, I want to go to hackathons, join clubs, create a startup, and maybe even pursue research! The ultimate goal is to land internships and a job out of college.

outside of school, what do you do?

I like listening to music (my taste is niche), playing TFT with my friends, doomscrolling Instagram and TikTok, and snacking. I live a very boring life, and I hope that WashU gives me the opportunity to grow and have fun. I want to live a life beyond a screen.
